Supply Chain Operations Manager - Africa and Middle East

Promoted to a group operations role to set up and train to ensure alignment across all mines and develop and implement a one size fits all operating system that supports standardisation. Will create an owner mindset and team that is
accountable and responsible and can make effective decisions to ensure an effective and efficient
system and ensure collaboration across all operational disciplines. 

Key focus areas in this role:

  • Enforce mine accountabilities and responsibilities
  • Ensure the maintaining of standards and KPI's to ensure that SC management is effective and
    efficient.
  • Relationships management between Functional teams, mine supply chain and rest of the
    mine. Developing contingency plans and business continuity strategies to mitigate supply
    chain risks and disruptions.
  • Ensure integrated Management of contracts are aligned with mines and functional teams.
    Talent development – succession planning
  • Drive supply chain best practices through, systems integration, demand planning, procurement
    and inventory control across all operations.
  • Identify gaps and ensure development and coaching of supply chain.
  • Coach and mentor mine supply teams to align to Barrick DNA.
  • Ensure integration between Supply and Maintenance teams to achieve KPI’s of equipment
    availability through effective collaborative demand planning
  • Implementing lean principles to eliminate waste and improve efficiency in supply chain
    processes.

Demand and Inventory Manager - Africa and Middle East

Key responsibilities was to define demand management business rules as the business evolves and to effectively implement these for improved supply costs. Lead and consolidate demand through collaborative Demand Management and to ensure inventory management is at levels defined in the budget with minimal increase in obsolescence through effective change control and to define management rules to cater for the growth and direction of the business. 

Key achievements:

  • Reduced inventory holding of Tanzania operations by $29 million  in 2020
  • Total inventory for Africa and Middle East reduced by $38 million since 2019
  • Increased demand planning accuracy to 95%
  • Enhanced our License to Operate in each host country
  • Successfully mitigated disruptions to operations during pandemic without any incurring additional costs in 2020

Master data and Information Management Specialist- Africa and Middle East

Randgold resources (Barrick)

Moved into a group position to manage all master data related information and systems for the five Randgold operations spanning over West and East Africa. Ensuring all spares and stock planning  for each operation are done to meet budget objectives within stock holding policies. Key output is to identify OEM's parts to procure from source. 

  • 90% demand planning accuracy achieved.
  • Master data accuracy including naming convention, part numbers, suppliers and standardization across the group
  • Constant review of stock holding and reorder levels to ensure 1 month stock policy is achieved and zero stock out
  • Monthly and Quarterly reports of all new stock added to each operation and budget reporting
  • Managing the stock holding budgets for each operation, plan and submit new budgets for the following year. 
  • Strategic stock for each operation identified and presented
  • Managed owner mining take over at Kibali project ($14 million) with 18000 new items to be procured, stocked and managed within budget objectives and ensured no operational down time during the transition period

Capital Materials Controller -Kibali Gold Mine

Been part of Supply Chain from initial stages of construction working on the $1.7 Billion Kibali gold mine project. Managing all areas of procurement, planning, demand planning, logistics and expediting on Capital projects in DRC. Starting 2012 have been responsible for the Capital Supply Manager duties including implementing adequate controls in the purchasing department and ensured the warehousing was fully operational and dependable. Coordinating the use and movement of equipment and materials and closing off projects with contractors with their respective logistics departments. Manage the ongoing demanding planning for key commodities construction and operational phase. 

  • Developed and implemented new systems for the management of 4.7 million liters of Diesel stock to eliminate any losses
  • Executed reduction plan of slow moving capital and operational stock by $220k and $120k respectively in 2016
  • Manage procurement, warehousing and demand planning for Capital Projects
  • Procurement manager for the $50 million Azambi Hydro Electric Project DRC.
  • Managed Capital Supply teams for 3 Hydro Electric Projects
  • Evaluated and developed logistics systems on site for integrated projects between client and contractor to achieve organisational goals and business imperatives that will be carried to succeeding projects
  • Training of local personnel resulted in 45/80 having permanent positions in the mining operations
  • Managed procurement and warehousing for the $89 million reallocation project of 4600 households and achieved zero stock at end of project
