Career Highlights

Pilot member of Cash Client Journey (CJ) in FY 2019 using Agile principles and Scrum framework to embed Transparency, Inspection and Adaptation into our ways of working. Product Owner for CJ squad maximizing the value delivered by the CJ squad.

Delivered 27 FTE efficiencies YTD 2021 through business transformation strategy resulting in a recurring saves of US$ 0.53 MM annually as part of the cost stretch objectives assigned for GBS Cash Ops. 

Implemented 12 Robotics Process Automation (RPA) initiatives resulting in 14 FTEs' manual efforts being automated. 

Oversaw the growth of 42 FTEs in GBS Malaysia though new migrations and business expansions. Responsible for cost vs income ratio, organizational structure and recruitment, training and execution, and successful migrations. 

Executed the migration of China business from GBS China to GBS Malaysia which resulted in a recurring saves of US$ 2.7 MM annually and 30 FTE efficiencies.

Won global awards throughout my career including the very first GSSCs Global Collaboration Award, SCB Malaysia Chairman's Here for Good Award, 2 Individual RBC Performance Award and 2 Team RBC Performance Award.

Functional Head, Cash Management Operations

Standard Chartered Global Business Services (M) Sdn Bhd

Functional Head for Cash Management Operations which includes the Outward Telegraphic Transfers, Inward Telegraphic Transfers, Book Transfers,  Cheque Clearing, Collections, Custody and Settlement  Payments, and Correspondent Banking Payments operations for Standard Chartered Bank customers and entities across 48 countries, and Product Owner (PO) for Cash Client Journey (CJ) Squad.

Key Achievements:

  • Pilot member of CJ squad and assisted with the roll out of Cash CJ in India and Malaysia in FY 2019.
  • Coached and developed my successor as well as the Product Owner to ensure continuity of progression within my team.
  • Delivered 27 FTE efficiencies for FY 2021 amounting to a saves of US$ 0.53 MM.
  • 59% reduction in external errors YTD 2021 - 27 (2020) to 11 (2021). 
  • Forecasted to end the year with US$ 0.35 MM surplus against the financial budget for the year.
  • Member of the working group responsible for the implementation of the new Cash Operations Target Operating Model (TOM). 
  • Completed the Regional Coverage structure where GBS Malaysia and GBS China will focus on ASA & GCNA Region while GBS India and GBS Poland (future) will focus on AME & EA Region.
  • Led and delivered 42 FTE of work through migrations encompassing Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and United States. 
  • Completed the Functional Workstream structure using Agile principles in April 2019 to move from traditional ways of working into new ways of working.
  • I was appointed as the lead personnel for MyVoice actions and Voice of Business Partner (VoBP) actions for GBS Cash Operations pan-GBS this and successfully improvised the Net Satisfaction Index from 65% to 80%, a 15% increase.
  • Delivered GBS Cash Operations' P20 (2018 & 2019) efficiency target by July 2018. 46 FTE efficiencies against the target of 23 FTE efficiencies.
  • Led and collaborated with the RPA team resulting in 12 RPA projects for 6 markets delivering a total of 14 FTE efficiencies for GBS Cash Operations.
  • Led the OCR/ICR project for Cheque Clearing Operations and project successfully went live in 2020.

Associate Director, Target Operating Model

Manage all aspects of project management which includes migration plan, detailed planning, recruitment, training plan, logistics, compliance review, operational risks' review, project funding and liaison with key stakeholders for projects initiated as part of the group's Target Operating Model.

Key Achievements:

  • Led and successfully delivered 20 Target Operating Model migrations involving 80 FTE for Australia, Canada and Luxembourg.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, on-boarding, training against the project timeline of the 80 FTE in Malaysia.
  • Reviewed all project materials including operational risks reports, latest audit reports, SLAs, across Fund Tax, Fund Accounting, Securities Lending, Global Reconciliations, Trade Management, OTC Middle Office and Client Service and Solutions business lines.
  • The successful migrations of the 20 new businesses resulted in a recurring saves of C$ 6.7 MM annually.
  • Successfully executed performance action plans to turn around destabilized operations teams in Malaysia within 3 months.
  • Performed a complete review of the Entitlements and Tax operations in Malaysia to identify the issues within the processes and submitted recommendations to eliminate the issues.

Head of Cash Management Operations

Lead and direct all aspects of Cash Management Operations which includes Telegraphic Transfers, Book Transfers, Foreign  Exchange, Liquidity Management, Global Pricing and Billing System, Cheque Clearing and Custody Payments for Standard Chartered Bank customers across 43 countries while providing leadership and direction for the 230 employees.

Key Achievements:

  • Maintained a profit margin at an upwards of 35% for the unit by managing the human capital costs, operational costs and infrastructure costs.
  • Delivered a total cost save of US$ 680,000 by plugging revenue leakages, removing redundant costs and reducing the people cost by maintaining a total workforce below 20% of the budgeted headcount.
  • Executed the business strategies for Cash Management Operations and ensured effective management of the financial risks and operational risks.
  • Prepared and submitted the TOM paper to migrate new businesses from 15 countries which will equate to an increase in revenue of US$ 3.7 MM within GSSC Malaysia.
  • Plugged revenue leakages of US$ 5.22 MM as of December 2015 through conversion of clients into the standard pricing and billing platform across 43 countries.  
  • Revamped the Cash Operations structure into 2 pillars namely, core operations and support functions resulting in a leaner and efficient structure where 4 redundant senior management roles were identified and removed allowing a cost save of US$ 150,000 per annum.

Associate Director, Transaction Management Client Operations

Lead and provide direction for 50 employees covering the areas of Market Settlements, Securities Lending, Cash Processing, Foreign Exchange teams for UK, Ireland and Luxembourg. 

Key Achievements:

  • Led the system, process and liquidity changes in relation to the T+2 settlement cycle for European markets. Reviewed the risks and impact associated to the major change.
  • Played an integral role in the implementation of the French Financial Transaction Tax (FTT). Designed the tracking and reporting mechanism for the Luxembourg clients before the process was automated.
  • Worked with the oversight team in the implementation of ESMA regulation for the Luxembourg based clients. 
  • Implemented new tactical plan to mitigate issues arising from an under-performing team which impacted global services and stakeholders in the area of liquidity management and capital markets business. Within 3 months of heightened scrutiny and engagement, the performance was elevated and as a result, the turnaround was acknowledged by  clients and stakeholders.

Lead the teams consisting of 40 employees servicing Luxembourg in the aspect of Transaction Management, Trade Capture Luxembourg activities which performs Trade Capture, Payments, Foreign Exchange, Settlements, Claims Management, Reconciliation, Derivatives and Fixed Income processing.

Key Achievements:

  • Catalyst for the STP Project within Trade Capture Luxembourg which was implemented in 3 phases. The project yielded a total of 15 FTE efficiencies and an increase in STP rate from 6% to 50%.
  • Restructured the function to optimize the teams and built a well balanced teams resulting in an efficiency gain of two managerial positions.
  • Implemented new deadlines and process methodology for trade operations which was adopted for clients across Luxembourg, Ireland, Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • Individual winner of the RBC Performance Award, global recognition program for 3rd Term 2014.
