ASSH to Highlight Innovations in Hand Surgery at 2014 Meeting

An award-winning physician, Dr. Bobby Chhabra was named chair of the University of Virginia’s (UVA) Department of Orthopaedics in August 2013. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Chhabra has garnered numerous accolades and awards, such as the Charles W. Miller Chief Resident Teaching Award in 2010 and the “Best Doctors in America” Award in 2007, 2008. 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. To stay abreast of the latest developments in the industry, Dr. Bobby Chhabra remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Orthopaedic Association and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.The American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) is preparing to host the 2014 Electives in Hand Surgery conference, which will be held February 7-8, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans in New Orleans. Co-hosted by the American Society of Hand Therapists, the 2014 meeting will highlight the most common conditions that can affect the upper extremities as well as clinically common conditions, such as benign wrist and hand tumors, and emergency conditions, such as wrist pain on the ulnar side.As one of the nation’s oldest organizations specifically dedicated to continuing medical education for hand surgery, ASSH is committed to promoting the practice and science of surgery for the hand and upper extremities. The organization strives to be the authoritative voice in the industry and to improve the quality of patient care.

University of Virginia Sports Medicine Treats and Prevents Injuries

Dr. Bobby Chhabra is Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery for the University of Virginia Health System. Additionally, Dr. Bobby Chhabra is a hand surgery consultant for the University of Virginia Athletic Department and works closely with the Division of Sports Medicine at UVA.The Division of Sports Medicine provides care for intercollegiate athletes in all sports at the University of Virginia and at James Madison University. It also helps support athletic trainers for other local colleges and high schools. The division works under guidelines provided by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and aims to provide the "gold standard" for care of elite Division I college athletes. The Division of Sports Medicine also contributes to research projects seeking to expand the treatment and prevention of sports injuries. Dr. Chhabra Serves as Co-Program Director for the ASSH Annual Meeting

A diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Bobby Chhabra serves as chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Virginia Health System. Additionally, Dr. Bobby Chhabra serves as the co-program director for the 2014 American Society for the Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Annual Meeting.One of the oldest and largest medical professional organizations in the US, the mission of the ASSH is to provide the latest development in the research and practice of hand surgery. At its annual meeting, participants learn about up-to-date surgical techniques for hand and upper extremity, view new hand surgery products, and read significant new viewpoints in health care policies. The three day event also hosts an international guest society, a global professional hand surgery organization that allows participants to obtain a broader understanding of hand surgery through interaction with peers from abroad. For nearly two decades, Dr. Bobby Chhabra has enjoyed a career as an orthopedic surgeon. Currently, Dr. Bobby Chhabra holds a number of positions throughout the University of Virginia Health System. His academic appointments include Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Professor of Plastic Surgery. He directs the school’s Hand Center as well as its Orthopedic Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship. In 2011, Dr. Bobby Chhabra received the appointment of Associate Chief Medical Officer of Surgical Services.  In August 2013 Dr. Chhabra received the appointment of Department Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery.
