Joel Russel-MacLean: Lead Pastor, First Baptist Church, Regina
Joel is my lead pastor, supervisor, and long time friend. He can give reference to my time at camp as well as my current work at FBC.
I am a skilled, energetic, and passionate individual with a diverse background of work experience, pastoral care, and community involvement. I have worked in college preparatory schools where the student body has a large variety of beliefs and cultural backgrounds. I always enjoy getting to know my students or youth, and building programs that meet their particular needs.
Create program and space where youth can be their authentic selves in exploring and growing in their faith in Christ. I have also had the opportunity to build relationships with other pastors in Regina to collaborate and plan joint youth group events. I have also gained experience working as a team member to assist establishing, communicating and living out the mission and vision of FBC.
Instructed grade 10 and 12 courses in Math, Science, and English to student upgraders as well as those who were working towards gaining their full grade 12 diploma.
I gained certification and training to teach both AP English courses. These courses, along with my publications and yearbook duties, really challenged me to grow professionally. Each course has required me to motivate students, to challenge themselves and to practice critical analysis, evaluation, communication, and collaboration. In addition, I am Google Certified.
Trained in Miami by the College Board in order to implement the AP Seminar course (part of the AP Capstone Diploma program). This course focuses on identifying, evaluating, creating and communicating arguments using the QUEST Inquiry model (Question, Understand, Evaluate, Synthesize, Transform/Transmit), and seeks to increase student engagement and understanding of a topic through inquiry and authentic learning tasks.
