·Trained USA university students and the HTI team in the diffusion of innovations, cross-cultural communication and missiology

·Chairperson of Sam Walton/Harding University scholarship committee in Belize for poor Central American students to study at American universities/USAID gave a matching grant to this program

·Trained medical doctors, medical and nursing students and missionary interns in missiology and cross-cultural communications in Belize, Guatemala City and Catacamas, Honduras in the Center for Medical Missions Training (CMMT) and the Medical Evangelism Training (MET) programs of HTI and PREDISAN

·Supervised missionary interns from Abilene Christian University (ACU)

·Collaborated socially and professionally with the Prime Minister of Belize (Dr. Manuel Esquivel) and with the Minister of Health (Dr. Assad Shoman) and the Minister of Education (Mr. Derek Aikman)

·Arranged with President Cliff Ganus of Harding University for Prime Minister of Belize to speak at US universities and meet the Governor of Arkansas and major business leaders

Most clients were diagnosed with schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder (manic/depressive), paranoid schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder. Held three positions at different times. They were:

(1) Group Therapist for Advanced Day Treatment. This involved:

·leading several group therapy sessions per week

·staffing

·individual counseling,

·emergency intake interviewing, especially for those in the acute phase of psychosis, which included writing the provisional diagnosis & treatment plan

·monitoring clients for decompensation and medication compliance

·presenting provisional diagnoses and treatment plans

·working in halfway houses and group homes

(2) Community Follow-up Social Worker (Psychiatric Social Worker). This involved:

·monitoring clients recently discharged from the acute care mental hospital, “Memphis Mental Health Institute (MMHI)”

·staffing

·individual and family counseling

·emergency intake interviewing

·home visits

·monitoring medication compliance and daily living skills, etc.

·alerting psychiatrists to clients who were decompensating & in need of court injunctions to hospital

·getting decompensating clients into the MHC & into court when placed there by the psychiatrist

·working in halfway houses and group homes

(3) Hospital Liaison. In this position

·liaised between NEMHC and MMHIand the Tennessee State Department of Mental Health

·did staffing at the MHC and the hospital

·did emergency intake interviewing followed patients’ / clients’ courses in the hospital and prepared for their release and follow-up with the mental health center

·acted when necessary as the liaison between NEMHC and the Tennessee State Department of Mental Health in Nashville

·worked with halfway houses and group homes

·This involved work for three to nine months out of each year as an evangelist in the Soviet Union and other communist countries in preaching, teaching, counseling and distribution of Bibles and Christian literature. Student while in the states and missionary when overseas
