Career Statement

My career goal is to develop a breadth of surgical skills in order to help people in high-need areas in Australia and worldwide. Having spent most of my life in Lebanon, I have firsthand experience of the difficulties that face such areas. I have seen how financially prohibitive medical advancements can be; the result, in conjunction with poor availability of care, is a widespread lack of access to limb- and life-saving treatments. I hope that, by pursuing a career in surgery, I can help to advance care in low socioeconomic and medically-deprived areas.

I have engaged myself in volunteer work since my school days, in order to both advance my skills and make pro-social contributions to my community. During my JMO years, I have engrossed myself in the many learning opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to receive: this ranges from bedside joint aspirations to ascitic taps, from operating theatre to clinical experience. Despite the relative juniority of my career, I have also been able to pass my skills and competences forward to medical students and my fellow JMOs in professional positions of leadership; these include both formal evaluations as well as informal teaching of clinical and procedural skills.

In the future, I aim to: further expand the breadth of knowledge I have in the surgical field; increase my engagement in research and teaching opportunities; continue benefiting from the tutelage and expertise of my colleagues and seniors; and use all of my personal and professional edification in order to provide the best patient care that I am able.
