Senior Lead Network Engineer
Effectively transitioned to a leadership role in the newly formalized CDN Network Automation (Automated Repair and Configuration Management) team after contributing significantly to the Origin Storage Platform (OSP). As the program lead, I was a instrumental in the overall architecture, technical engineering, and project development, focusing on high-precision configurations, across a range of service functions, from bare metal imaging through application and service deployment. My leadership extended to managing and defining critical data for a robust, industry-leading service network of over 18,000 globally installed servers with over 50 machine types. Key responsibilities included:
- Leading project management, developing strategies and roadmaps, and overseeing monthly/quarterly team commitments and reporting.
- Implementing SAFe Agile methodologies and tooling (i.e. Jira, GitOps) for efficient breakdown and execution of complex projects as part of the company's transformation effort.
- Pioneering the shift towards more modern practices and tooling, to include CI/CD, automated unit testing, and staged deployment release controls for primary customer service facing applications, internal support services, and other group demands.
- Innovating solutions for increased automation in configuration execution, vital for meeting the increasing challenges of operational cost compression. Leveraged tools and frameworks like Salt, GitLab, Python FastAPI, Azure AD, IPMI, Canonical MaaS, and Swagger among many others.
- Solving for evolving corporate governance practices by collaborating across the broader Lumen organization, integrating essential tooling from departments like centralized asset management, security, and IT, adapting to the evolving ecosystem.
- Driving the transition from legacy interfaces to API-centric RESTful models, optimizing configuration management, and integrating legacy systems with unique requirements.
Additionally, I:
- Developed applications to support primary development teams and conducted technology evaluations.
- Improved the release cadence for the primary CDN service from 1-2 releases per year, to the targeted monthly deployment schedule. This was followed on, by introducing a gitops model for automated deployments into the canary/trial environments.
- Led the transformation of legacy applications, adopting modern tooling and solutions to meet increased business and technical demands.
- Spearheaded security initiatives in partnership with dedicated security teams, ensuring robust controls and protections.
- Advanced automated repair and health impairment processes, contributing to improved system resilience and efficiency.
