My career is distinguished by a passion for innovation and a proven track record in driving technological advancements and platform development. Eager to leverage my dynamic blend of excitement, knowledge, and experience, I am poised to make an immediate and impactful contribution to an organization's continued success.

Work experience

Senior Lead Network Engineer

Effectively transitioned to a leadership role in the newly formalized CDN Network Automation (Automated Repair and Configuration Management) team after contributing significantly to the Origin Storage Platform (OSP). As the program lead, I was a instrumental in the overall architecture, technical engineering, and project development, focusing on high-precision configurations, across a range of service functions, from bare metal imaging through application and service deployment. My leadership extended to managing and defining critical data for a robust, industry-leading service network of over 18,000 globally installed servers with over 50 machine types. Key responsibilities included:

  • Leading project management, developing strategies and roadmaps, and overseeing monthly/quarterly team commitments and reporting.
  • Implementing SAFe Agile methodologies and tooling (i.e. Jira, GitOps) for efficient breakdown and execution of complex projects as part of the company's transformation effort.
  • Pioneering the shift towards more modern practices and tooling, to include CI/CD, automated unit testing, and staged deployment release controls for primary customer service facing applications, internal support services, and other group demands.
  • Innovating solutions for increased automation in configuration execution, vital for meeting the increasing challenges of operational cost compression. Leveraged tools and frameworks like Salt, GitLab, Python FastAPI, Azure AD, IPMI, Canonical MaaS, and Swagger among many others.
  • Solving for evolving corporate governance practices by collaborating across the broader Lumen organization, integrating essential tooling from departments like centralized asset management, security, and IT, adapting to the evolving ecosystem.
  • Driving the transition from legacy interfaces to API-centric RESTful models, optimizing configuration management, and integrating legacy systems with unique requirements.

Additionally, I:

  • Developed applications to support primary development teams and conducted technology evaluations.
  • Improved the release cadence for the primary CDN service from 1-2 releases per year, to the targeted monthly deployment schedule. This was followed on, by introducing a gitops model for automated deployments into the canary/trial environments.
  • Led the transformation of legacy applications, adopting modern tooling and solutions to meet increased business and technical demands.
  • Spearheaded security initiatives in partnership with dedicated security teams, ensuring robust controls and protections.
  • Advanced automated repair and health impairment processes, contributing to improved system resilience and efficiency.

Senior Network Engineer

Ascended to the role of Senior Engineer for the Origin Storage Platform (OSP) service, a hyperscale storage solution focused on serving the storage demands primarily for enterprise clients in the media and gaming industry. This platform was designed for the secure storage and efficient management of extensive content libraries, regardless of size. Leveraging direct integration with Lumen's global IP backbone, the OSP service was seamlessly combined with the Content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure smooth and reliable online file distribution. Key responsibilities in this role included:

  • Authoring comprehensive platform engineering specifications, diagrams and other documentation as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), facilitating clear understanding and documentation for internal teams, including gateway deployments, custom tool and applications for development teams, operational guides, playbooks, and documentation for Product and Business divisions.
  • Ensuring the global redundancy of the storage platform, maintaining scale and availability demands for the ingress and egress as a leading content distribution service provider. Maintained the business SLA demands for 60PB geo redundant storage solution with 100% durability and 99.999% ingest availability while maintaining serving availability for the distribution network.
  • Defining and improving KPIs and metrics to quantitate platform/service health, as well as developing operational procedures and automated self-healing interventions.
  • Formulated detailed test guidance and test plans for new developments, setting the stage for QA and Operational team grooming and execution to ensure platform reliability and stability
  • Authoring Method of Procedure documentation, directed at wide array of technical knowledge and experience within a diverse Operations team.
  • Collaborate closely with major clients to develop bespoke solutions in order to precisely meet their unique technical and business requirements.

During this time, I also:

  • Transitioned the storage platform from an open source Lustre-based cluster running on commodity hardware, to an IBM GPFS solution integrating hardware and software from  DataDirect Networks' Exascaler offering. As lead, I was instrumental in bringing the new platform from concept to commercial acceptance, as well as solving for the migration of over 2K customer accounts and unique namespaces.
  • Used my experience and leadership skills to create and deploy one of the initial storage clusters capable of supporting a live OTT live broadcast replacement service for Sony Interactive Entertainment, known at the time as the Sony Playstation Vue service.
  • Actively engaged with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, architecture, development, and operations, to continually refine the platform in response to evolving customer needs and to ensure an optimal environment for the Media Operations group to manage.
  • Spearheaded all technical escalations, addressing customer-specific issues, platform service impairments, and emergency technical challenges beyond the scope of Operations Engineering.
  • Served as the primary point of contact for all technology discussions related to the OSP platforms, ensuring coherent and effective communication.
  • Drove the platform's expansion to an impressive 40 PiB of unique capacity (80 PiB total) with over 30 billion objects, achieving egress delivery in excess of 150 Gbps across four gateway locations.
