Joel Barrow

Experienced Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager

Work History

2006Present

Locum Pharmacist

Self Employed

Working in a variety of settings, always striving to offer the best possible customer service and experience.

I have undergone seasonal flu vaccination training on 3 occasions and administered over 400 vaccinations, including staff vaccinations for 2 Morrisons stores.

I have been involved in training 2 pre-registration students, one final year pharmacy student in addition to technicians, dispensers and counter staff.

To aid my delivery of high quality MUR's I have undergone training and passed my consultation skills for pharmacy certificate, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.  I have completed and am certified to access  Summary Care Records , having also attended face to face training for this.  I look forward to using this to deliver well informed MUR's with more constructive feedback to GP's.

20012006

Pharmacy Manager

Rowlands Pharmacy

Successfully managing a community Pharmacy in Wrenthorpe, Wakefield.  With all the extensive duties associated with this role.

Some of my key achievements in this time include:

Winning Branch of the month twice in my final year with Rowlands, based on achievement of key performance indicators including prescription volume growth, prescription collection sign ups and delivering increased profit through cost effective purchasing.

Training staff without pharmacy experience to become extremely confident and competent NVQ level 2 pharmacy dispensers.

19982001

Pharmacy Manager

Soul Pattinson Pharmacy, Bundaberg Australia

A different kind of challenge:

I arrived in Australia and was given an Australian pharmacy law text book  and told the exam was in Brisbane in 1 week! While finding somewhere to live, buying a car and working 40 hours in the pharmacy I spent my remaining time studying. I booked a flight for Brisbane for the exam, which I passed and was entered on the Queensland Board of Pharmacy register.

My two years working for Soul Pattinson were a great experience, the group of three pharmacies was trading under the Soul Pattinson banner.  It was a very successful business, rooted in good customer service.  My branch had around 30 staff in total, with a busy dispensing core.

19941998

As a newly qualified pharmacist this gave me great experience in a wide range of Pharmacies from single shop independents through to large multiples.

During this time I attended meetings of the Bradford Branch of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and was eventually appointed vice chairman and social secretary.  I attended the Branch representatives meeting in London and was responsible for organising the annual Pharmacy Ball, which was attended by over 100 people.
