Lauren Gurgiolo is a musician, composer, and multimedia artist with a cultivated and singular perspective on musical craft and performance. Her music technique and language have been refined from touring internationally as a guitarist with several rock bands (since 2008) including Okkervil River and Erika Wennerstrom/ The Heartless Bastards. During this time she performed on multiple late-night talk shows and films, collaborated with psychedelic legend Roky Erickson and has played the most renowned theaters and festivals in the world.
Gurgiolo's depth as a musician stems from years of dedicated study and practice. Her jazz studies at the University of Texas from 1997 to 2002 provided a solid foundation in music theory and improvisation. She has also delved into the roots of American music, learning to play the mandolin, banjo, and lap steel. Additionally, Gurgiolo draws inspiration from modernist composers, early electronic musicians, and utilizes field recordings, especially in her multimedia work since 2013. It's the blending of these diverse elements that makes her a captivating guitarist and composer for her own project, The Dialtones.
