    ICC Master of Special Inspection

    Premier Testing & Inspection, Inc.

    • Observe and inspect H-piles to verify correct size, type of pile, and timed placement of pile. Verify piles are plumb and spaced correctly.

    • Perform welding inspections on skid connection plates to top of H-piles, and battery skid to pile cap plates. As per AWS D1.1 and job specifications.

    • Oversee high strength bolt testing via skidmore, turn of the nut bolt testing (TON), and torque testing of bolts with calibrated wrench.

    • Structural concrete inspections include: verify concrete batch tickets, monitor temperature/timing of concrete throughout, monitor concrete placement, assuring concrete is being consolidated by means of mechanical vibration, and cast test cylinders.

    • Interpret engineering and contract specifications. Maintain completed files of field, laboratory data, reports, letters, RFl's, and other pertinent field data. Accurately submit daily field inspection reports, and identify discrepancies.

    • Travel 100+ miles to job sites located in the desert region. Maintain safety standards. Apply ethics and integrity in all assigned tasks. Work overtime, and as needed without prior notice.

    City of San Diego Deputized Special Inspector

    Twining Inc.

    • Moved to San Diego to be part of the new $2.7 billion dollar Terminal 1-San Diego International Airport project. Presently the largest in both size and cost in all of San Diego. 

    • Brought on board to be part of the first inspection team for the reinforced concrete.

    • Chosen to be the sole structural steel erection, and high strength bolting Special Inspector.

    • Performed high strength Skidmore test on all high strength bolts that were brought on site. Required to utilize Angel Wing Basket at four stories and above, in order to perform the Turn Of The Nut inspections. In addition to the Buckling-restrained Brace (BRB) inspections.

    • Assured all Torsion Control Bolts (TC Bolts) were fully tensioned, and Steel-Ply were brought into full contact.

    • Documented and reported any code violations committed by contractors. Responsible for entering daily reports in several systems.

    • Confirmed qualified Welders, and verified work was performed according to the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).

    Master of Special Inspection

    RMA

    • This Highway 50 design-build project is currently the largest in Sacramento. Estimated at $470 million dollars. Was part of original crew, that inspected the sound wall foundation work. Worked alongside Caltrans, to ensure strict compliance.

    • Established reinforcement steel of pile cages, caps, and spread footings for foundation of masonry sound wall were correct size.

    • Confirmed pile holes were drilled at correct size, depth, and locations, according to approved plans.

    • Inspected steel reinforcement of masonry block walls, assuring correct size, grade, and placement.

    • Collected, and validated reinforcement steel delivered coincided with Material Testing Reports (MTR).

    • Identified risks and discrepancies at project site. Documented findings, evaluations and inspections, utilizing company software and procedures. Assured daily reports were submitted before end of day.

    • Attended monthly Caltrans status update meetings with Flatiron and all applicable contractors. Took the lead in collaborating as a team, to foster a productive and positive work environment in the field.

    • Sought out by Hensel Phelps to be a Lead Quality Control Engineer, for the design-build Hawaii State Hospital. Responsible for all aspects of the quality control process, and inspections for this $140 million project. 
    • Aided Hawaii State and City Officials (DAGS). Interfaced directly with Owner’s Quality Assurance on all quality related issues. Facilitated all Pre-Mob and Preparatory Meetings. Analyzed interpretation of specifications, standards, and code requirements for work being performed on project.
    • Maintained six step quality control process. Completed Quality Process Log (QPL). Reviewed potential deficiency reports, and tracked discrepancies. Verified issues were fully corrected prior to closing.
    • Managed and performed any initial, and follow up inspections. Completed inspections of all materials. Performed daily field inspections to verify work complied with project specifications, and applicable codes. Documented daily reports. Identified areas inspected, tests performed, and any significant findings.
    • Directed the removal and replacement of any non-conforming work in compliance of contract documents. Identified RFI’s to ensure changes were implemented. Coordinated and reviewed all inspections/reports.
    • Verified approximately 3,000 concrete precast panels set, and installed were placed correctly, along with over 270,000 units of CMU Blocks. 
    • Applied prior door installation experience, and turned 700+ hollow metal detention door frame inspection into three-step process. Mentored site Carpenters to install future door frames accurately.

    • Resident Special Inspector for Merck’s $340 Million Research Laboratories, and five story parking structure. Managed all inspections, while working conjointly with Owner’s Representative.
    • Examined, verified, project drawings and job specifications. Responsible for organizing onsite inspections. Interpreted any concrete placement, welding, and rebar quality concerns in daily subcontractor’s meetings. Compiled and reviewed mandatory daily reports.
    • Led all fit up inspections of full and partial pen welds. Inspected all fillet welds. Conducted high strength bolting inspections; including visual, torque, and skidmore testing.
    • Executed inspections of all spread footings, pile caps, slab on grades, and over 400 pile cages. Most 80 feet in length.
    • Inspected welding, crimping of pan decking, and tested installation of nelson studs.
    • Performed all masonry inspections; including rebar, mortar and grout placements.
    • Monitored shotcrete inspections, and qualification process of Nozzleman working on parking structure.

    • The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Kapalua, Maui, HI. Deputized by acting Maui County Inspector to perform various inspections on his behalf, which included metal stud framing and fire caulking.
    • Confirmed type, grade, and visual conformity of reinforcement steel. With approved plans, and acceptable quality standards.
    • Kept deviation, status, and resolution logs. Marked/tagged all inspected work when applicable. If deviations not corrected, reported them to all concerned parties.
    • Handled all concrete specimens, and performed break tests. Followed through with any required lab work, for the duration of the new Ritz-Carlton project.
