The Family Van and Mobile Health Map, both community programs of Harvard Medical School, increase access to health care and improve the health of residents in Boston’s most underserved communities and the mobile health sector across the country. Goals include:

  • Maximize impact by expanding hours and adding new, high-quality programs.
  • Oversee the development of new systems to better manage information and engage donors and volunteers.
  • Grow revenue through individual and organizational fundraising.
  • Leverage the treasure-trove of data collected by the organization about the program, the needs of underserved Boston communities, and the mobile health sector across the U.S.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing and communications plans to strengthen brand awareness.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Transformed the region’s footprint to expand access to sexual and reproductive health services in the Southern United States.

  • Inherited an extremely ambitious five-year program that many thought would never succeed. Fulfilled the vision on-time and under-budget. Specific accomplishments include:
    • The construction of 14 health centers in 9 southern states.
    • Expansion of program operations from a core staff of 3 to 10 and led a cross-functional team of 30+ people and an interorganizational team (national office, affiliates, and consultants) of 100+ people.
    • Reconfigured $60 million budget to adapt to strategy and program changes.
  • Established Planned Parenthood’s first physical corporate presence in the South by opening a new office in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Led the evolution of strategy with affiliate CEOs and their leadership teams within a rapidly changing and hostile political environment.
  • Working in conjunction with development staff, met with high-net-worth individual donors and foundations to keep them apprised of progress and foster their continued support.
  • Led a comprehensive public affairs program to build support for the organization and key issues which resulted in a six-fold increase in the number of donors and triple the number of grassroots supporters.

Increased access to the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer by establishing a new division in the national office dedicated to strengthening community programs.

  • Successfully advocated for $8 million and delivered programs to address previously unmet needs including the disproportionate impact of breast cancer on women of color, women with disabilities, and rural communities.
  • Led the change management process to improve the affiliates’ approach to identify and prioritize community needs which resulted in satisfactory ratings for 90 percent of affiliates.
  • Identified the need to evaluate the grantmaking process and implemented the first evaluation of grantee experience with the Center for Effective Philanthropy. Aggressively introduced and implemented new processes and training and as a result, improved satisfaction and impact among grantees.

Prior Experience

Fundraising for two nonprofit organizations, Habitat for Humanity of Bryan/College Station, Texas and Doctors for Global Health.

  • More than doubled the annual revenue of one organization through the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan. Secured major gifts and sponsorships totaling over $1 million and organized a successful capital campaign.
  • Created organization's first development plan. Increased revenue by more than 80 percent.
