Chief Technology Officer

Knosys

Knosys is an ASX-listed software company based in Melbourne, Australia. Knosys provides a variety of software products, including knowledge management and library management solutions. As Knosys' Chief Technology Officer, my role is highly varied, and my responsibilities include:

  • Leading the technology function within the business, including all aspects of team development, recruitment, mentoring and management of a team of more than 25 FTE, along with external contractors
  • Management of key technology supplier relationships, including AWS, Microsoft, Nexon and Sensiba
  • Direct the end to end implementation process of Knosys' software, from business and functional analysis, solution design, development and product delivery
  • Ensure Knosys' eligibility and produce annual AusIndustry R&D grant applications worth ~$1m annually
  • Product management, including roadmap decisions, market analysis and prioritisation
  • Lead sales and implementation across all of Knosys' markets, including Australia and Europe, helping the business increase revenue five-fold

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Lead transformation of the knowledge management solution from an on-premises product to full cloud-based deployments, including design and delivery of highly available SaaS solutions for enterprise customers inlcuding Optus and Singtel
  • Lead the development of new product initiatives, including wholesale replacement of 
  • Integration of multiple products (through acquisition) into the technology group, including integration of development and operations teams
  • Lead technical analysis during M&A activity, producing technical due-dilligence reports for board review and consideration, resulting in the acquisition of two businesses
  • Develop and implement stategies for obtaining ISO27001 and SOC2 certifications
  • Set and lead the organisation response to the COVID-19 situations, enabling full home-working early in the pandemic, and then subsequently delivered the hybrid working model in use by the organisation
  • Lead team initiatives on AI, including AI-enabled product features, AI-tooling for development, code-review and testing and AI-enabled tools for support, product documentation and learning

Senior Technical Business Analyst

Intellematics

Intellematics, a division of RAVC, is a provider of software and services to the motor vehicle industry. As a contract technical business analyst at Intellematics, my role involved:

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to understand product requirements and proposed architecture
  • Develop technical requirements documentation that could be used by the software and hardware development teams to deliver in-vehicle solutions for customers

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Development of key technical requirements for a greenfields development project with one of the worlds largest vehicle manufacturers to support emergency assistance services for Australian and New Zealand customers

General Manager

Sigtec

Sigtec provides telematics hardware and software across the Public Transport, Public Safety and Taxi and Transport sectors. During my tenure with Sigtec, I worked across a variety of roles, from managing the Infrastructure Team, to Operations Manager for the Taxi and Transport division to General Manager of the Taxi business. Key responsibilities from my roles included:

  • Managing the infrastructure and operations teams, responsible for all infrastructure deployments across all business divisions
  • The end to end operations of the Taxi and Transport division, including full P&L responsibility, software development, project management and operations components of the business

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Designing and implementing highly available infrastructure solutions for key government customers in Australia and Dubai, used to manage large-scale operations of public transport infrastructure
  • Program management of a key transformation initiative for the Dubai Government, including the transition to modern hardware and new software for more than 9,000 taxis
  • Managing the Sigtec Taxi business after the sale of the Public Transport and Public safety divisions, including through it's acquisition by an international private equity group

visionGateway

visionGateway develops software and hardware solutions for small organisations and educational institutions to provide network devices that can be managed by business staff. My role as a software developer involved:

  • Developing new features and components for the visionGateway network solution using embedded Java and C

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Integration of new networking hardware, including development of Linux kernel modules to manage and control the hardware and extensions to IPTables to manage bridged data packets

Trysoft / aitch2o

aitch2o develops billing and automation tools for telecommunications organisations, with a focus on VoIP and consumer service provisioning. My role as an Analyst / Programmer involved:

  • Developing new software features and bug fixes primarily using Java, along with HTML and JavaScript
  • Working with key stakeholders to create, review and present specifications for new products  from initial requirements gathering through approval

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Development of an agent-based provisioning tool to accept messages from a provisioning system and execute scripted components to provision new services in a device-agonstic way using standardised technologies such as SSH

Software Developer

Mincom

Mincom (now AAB) produces ERP software for large defence and mining organisations in Australia and around the world. My role as a Software Developer involved:

  • Developing new software features and resolving production issues in the Mincom Axis B2B solution, developing using Enterprise Java and COTS software from IBM, including WebSphere and DB2

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Responding to production issues and co-ordinating team resources to ensure prompt resolution of these problems
  • Replacing the COTS business process automation tool from IBM with an in-house, custom and extensible solution, allowing more streamlined operations for the Axis solution and allowing Java developers within the team to easily build document transformations without knowing IBM's BPM language

Software Engineer

Softlink

Softlink is a provider of software for the school library market. My role as a software engineer included:

  • Developing new software features or resolving bugs in multiple languages, including C++, C#, Java as well as JavaScript and HTML

Notable highlights from this role include:

  • Acting as the primary resource within the business for a new product acquired by Softlink (Liberty) and working with senior leadership to ensure that other developers were up to speed on the product, its capabilities and development environment
  • Development of a new product to meet knowledge management requirements for special libraries, using technologies acquired from the acquisition of the Liberty product
