Work experience

Senior Manager of Product Development

In response to a major software announcement telling over 150 hospital systems that their EHR software was being sunset in favor of another McKesson product, I was selected to build a strategic vision to sell customers on McKesson’s ability to seamlessly migrate to the new EHR. Built three high-performing, self-organizing teams that delivered products against the roadmap.  Worked externally with C-suite and IT group to pilot the products.

  • Using Agile principles, team delivered critical functionality to allow Bulk Order Sign-off in a quarter of the time another team had estimated to deliver.  From requirements to pilot took one month.  Supported installations across the customer base.
  • Built  products to move customers' longitudinal patient data (home medications, problems, allergies and immunizations) from Horizon EHR to Paragon EHR.  Learned the data and the applications in both systems and have converted over 5MM records across 10 customer sites.
  • Drove market requirements and strategic planning to identify roadmap and plan releases.
  • Filled in for roles within the group including scrummaster, product owner, business analyst, systems analyst, and quality control.  Expanded my skills by becoming a Certified Scrummaster
  • Managed requirements prioritization, customer relationships, outside consultants, staffing, and $3M budget
  • Working within the Scaled Agile Framework, coached other Agile teams to help with their ability to deliver and maximize resources

Director, Product Management

Managed Physician Portal, Mobile Physician products and Care Alerts products - $30M in revenue against $5M investment.

  • Drove market requirements and strategic planning for major overhaul of the Physician Portal and Mobile Physician products.
  • Identified business opportunities, determined pricing, met with physicians across many hospitals to define the product and achieved executive sign-off for the new product.
  • Directed the sustaining model that included enhancement and defect prioritization, customer inquiries and pricing requests for existing products.

Director of Operations and Product Manager

Chosen to pioneer a new group within the Clinical Software organization that was chartered to use advancements in technology to build innovative software products for hospitals. Performed many roles in the group including product manager, business development, evangelist, people manager, vendor relations and process implementation.

  • Wrote the Marketing Requirements, Business Case, and Technical Architecture for an innovative product concept that used advanced data visualization and remote monitoring technology to synthesize patient data so that clinicians can manage multiple patients at one time.  Achieved senior management buy-in for $840K product against 3 year software revenue projection of $4M and maintenance revenues of $50M.
  • Breakthrough delivery of prototype in 3 months
  • 100% positive customer feedback led to the prototype becoming the design foundation for the organization’s next software architecture.
  • Introduced and implemented Agile development which enabled a complex product to be built in less than two years.

Director of Product Requirements and Design

Built and managed a group of over 70 employees (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, business analysts, and human factors engineers) in the development of a business engineering and analysis and human factors engineering for more than 50 Healthcare software products.

  • Introduced business analysis and user interface design as required competencies in product management. Mentored other organizations within McKesson to implement similar models to design their products. Full adoption rate after 4 years.
  • Improved customer satisfaction by involving customers in product design
  • Turned around and motivated employees who were underutilized; increased morale and retention.
  • Instituted new hiring procedures that resulted in hiring highly qualified people who are excelling in the organization and quadrupled the group size to 70 employees.
