Managing Director and Head - Structuring Asia Pacific, Corporate Banking and Securities

Revamped and unified a group of disparate product and geographical teams into a market leading team of 63 people acknowledged as the number 1 team offering corporate, institutional and retail clients risk management, investment and financing solutions operating in Asia Pacific.

Influenced the global firm-wide strategy as a member of the Global Structuring Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank (since 2010). Did the same to a greater extent in the region as a member of the Deutsche Bank Asia Corporate Banking and Securities Executive Committee (since its creation in 2013).

Intergrated engagement with credit, legal, compliance, finance, group sustainability and other infrastructure teams with the aim of executing key transactions more efficiently and profitably.

Created a monthly AsiaPac Leadership Forum and instituted monthly calls to discuss market trends, enhance teamwork and communication and keep the management team abreast of global and regional developments

 Ensured efficient allocation of resources and enhanced moral by personally driving compensation and promotion decisions of entire team.

 Achievements:

  • Set-up a new cross-asset class investor solutions team by reallocating team members to focus on institutional and retail clients leading to increased revenues of 50% over 3 years from this client segment.
  • Reorganised the Asian Rates and FX structuring teams into a unified client risk management team while reducing this new team’s headcount in South East Asia, India and Korea by 83% and investing resources in the growth market of Japan.
  • Revitalised the financing business by internally and externally hiring higher impact people and re-allocating people’s roles and affiliations while keeping the headcount broadly the same. This led to an increase of revenues of 15% across Asia Pacific over 3 years while significantly enhancing business efficiency
  • Relocated two MDs from London to Singapore (replacements of people who we moved out of the team) in order to significantly strengthen client engagement in Strategic Equity solutions and Fixed Income and Currency solutions increasing deal originating capability. This led to a substantial increase in the quality of client engagement
  • Realigned people’s responsibilities by giving a few people broader roles across geographies to maximize skill set usage. 
  • Increased Asia Pacific Structuring revenues by 20% and decreased headcount by 33% over 3 years

Managing Director and Head of Emerging Markets Structuring - CEEMEA and Head of EMEA Rates Structuring

Promoted to a bigger role and relocated from Singapore to London in July 2010 tasked with rejuvenating the Emerging Markets Structuring business.

Built relationships with over 50 main internal stakeholders across the UK, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Russia and the CIS countries and Africa.

Engaged with the firm’s key clients in new geographies E.g: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Moscow and Croatia / Serbia.

Achieved significant success within 9 months by creating a new line of business and growing Emerging Market revenues of my team by 30%.

In April 2011, took on additional responsibility for the Bank's European Rates Structuring efforts and was asked to guide the second biggest (by profits) structured business of Deutsche Bank globally.

Built relationships with key corporate and institutional sales people relevant to the European Rates business in Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, UK, Spain, Switzerland and Scandinavian countries.

Reduced the overall headcount and the number of MDs in my European Rates Structuring Team by reallocating roles and increasing responsibilities.

Maintained and grew Deutsche Bank’s lead OVER competition during this period and reinforced the number 1 position in Europe and the Emerging Markets.

Achieved a nearly 10 fold increase in profits in the Asia Rates Structuring Business from April 2006 to December 2008 with dramatically enhanced product and idea generation, teamwork, geographical revenue footprint and intensity of engagement with salespeople and clients.

Took on joint responsibility of the Public Side Equities Structuring business in May 2009. The period between June 2009 and June 2010 was arguably the best ever period for Deutsche bank's Asian structured equities business measured by revenues, new product launches, strategic hires, significantly enhanced teamwork with other groups that could help the Equities business in Asia.

Co-founded a new team of specialists across insurance, legal, accounting/fiscal.

ABN AMRO Bank - Mumbai, Singapore and HongKong

Performed a variety of roles over the years - 6.5 years  as a Foreign Exchange and Money Markets Trader in Mumbai, 1 year as a Structured products liability side marketing person covering Indian corporate and institutional clients and finally 3.5 years as a cross asset class Marketer based in Singapore and eventually briefly in Hong Kong.

Optimized the interbank FX trading desk in ABN AMRO Bank Mumbai and was consistently the most successful (trading profits made by any FX dealer)  "interbank dealer" in ABN AMRO Bank India in the years 1995-1999.

Volunteered to join a newly set up Mumbai based 2 person Structured Products Marketing team in ABN AMRO India in the year 2000. In September 2001, I was given the opportunity to move to ABN AMRO Singapore to join the Regional Sales and Structuring effort. In Jan 2002, I was made formally responsible for the client solutions business in India and several South East Asian countries.
