An Overview

Tom is a senior executive and trusted advisor of team leaders in a wide range of organizations.  He is a student and teacher of leadership practices focused on helping each member of a team “become the best possible version of themselves” as the team focuses on and achieves it’s goals and purpose.

Tom believes there are five elements in finding the right role for each team member.  Two of these, applicable skills and specific knowledge, are developed through study, practice and experience.  Two others, passion and values, are developed through life and cultural experiences.  The final element is a set of innate talents developed from birth through the age of puberty forming the natural tendencies that define the uniqueness of each person throughout their life.

The StrengthsFinder Assessment provided by Gallup helps individuals identify their natural talents and provides a basis for understanding the uniqueness they and others bring to their roles in working together.  Tom has developed a high level of expertise in helping individuals and teams discover, understand and apply their talents. 

Gallup has grouped the thirty-four talents identified by Donald Clifton, the creator of the StrengthsFinder assessment, into four domains of leadership strengths.  Tom has integrated this framework with his framework of  “critical success factors of dynamic teamwork” to provide executive and management team leaders a set of powerful tools that deliver results.


Tom’s “top five” talents from the StrengthsFinder assessment give considerable insight into the internal forces that have shaped his professional career. 

  1. Tom’s top talent. “Strategic”, helps him create alternative ways to proceed.  When faced with any given scenario, he quickly spots the relevant patterns and issues.
  2. His second talent, “Activator” causes him to make things happen by turning thoughts into action.  You may note he can be impatient to get things started.
  3. His third talent. “Individualization”, helps explain why he is intrigued with the unique qualities of each person.  He has a gift for figuring out how people who are different can work together productively.
  4. His fourth talent, “Arranger” is clearly evident in the detailed plans and processes he develops when organizing any activity or team effort.  He likes to figure out how all the pieces and resources can be arranged for maximum productivity.
  5. His fifth talent, “Learner”, drives him to study and research many resources to find solutions to complex management issues.  He has a great desire to learn and focuses on continuous improvement in all that he does.

As a mentor, coach, advisor and leader, Tom has discovered ways to use his talents to uniquely help those he serves as they seek to become “the best possible versions of themselves”.

Teamwork Dynamics, Inc.

Tom formed this Professional Services Firm to provide executive level support to senior executives of firms seeking to drive results through effective leadership of management teams

The firm helps executives, senior managers, associates and their coaches develop an in-depth understanding of each team member's innate talents upon which individual strengths and engagement are developed.  Since 2011 the firm has helped more than 350 individuals each year discover their unique talents as a basis for developing and applying their strengths in working with others.

For more than thirty years, Tom, through Teamwork Dynamics, has mentored, coached and advised executives, senior managers and MBA candidates as they have focused on their career transitions and the development of their leadership skills. 

Since 2010 the firm has focused on the application of leadership and career development processes based on Gallup's StrengthsFinder assessment tool.  Gallup's research and the experiences of Teamwork Dynamics both reveal that when leaders and organizations focus on helping individuals become "the best possible versions of themselves" through the development of their strengths, then employee engagement and results soar.

Tom has developed tools and processes that help individuals discover their talents, develop their strengths and advance their careers.  He has developed additional tools and processes that help team leaders discover and develop the talents present in the members of their teams which in turn help each individual "become the best possible version of themselves."

Associate Board Mentor

Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business

Tom was a member of the Associate Board at the Cox School of Business of SMU for 33 years.  This group of more than 200 Dallas area executives provides MBA students with business contacts, career advice, and industry insight that only experienced professionals can offer.  Nearly 150 MBA students have been mentored by Tom since he was asked to join the Associate Board.

A number of Tom's mentees have engaged him to continue mentoring and advising them as their careers and professional responsibilities have evolved over the years.

He also developed and delivered a seven week course on teamwork for SMU's Professional MBA program.  Several of the participants in this class have distingusihed themselves as powerful leaders in their organizations.

Legacy Center for Public Policy

The Legacy Center for Public Policy was a regional, non-partisan think tank of prominent civic and business leaders providing public policy analysis and recomendations for the benefit of the North Texas community.  Tom participated in the following research projects:

  • The Crisis of Public Education
  • Sustainability
  • The Repeal of the Wright Amendment

During the Legacy Center's 2006 annual retreat Tom was presented the organization's "Distinguished Fellow Award".

Board Member, Chairman Audit Committee

Trulite, Inc.

Served as independent director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors for this startup hydrogen fuel cell development and marketing company.  While serving on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee, the Company began the process of its initial public offering of stock.



Technology Exchange Networks, Inc.

President and Owner of this professional services firm providing executive level management of operations and projects for CEOs and CIOs of firms seeking to make significant changes in information systems and executive teams. Projects included interim corporate management roles, organizational studies, marketing studies, recruiting services, outsourcing information services, and retained searches for senior executives. Major assignments included:

  • Management Action Programs (MAP) (Dallas, Texas) 1998-1999
    Executive Consultant.  Led management leadership workshops in this management development company. Provided support to more than 100 client executives and senior managers as they focused on personal development issues and organizational goals.

  • World Boulevard.  (Fort Worth, Texas) 1998
    Acting CEO.  Assisted directors of this start up company in assessing viability of the company’s E-Commerce concept which was focused on marketing and selling up-scale gift items through a features-rich web portal site. Guided the management team and investors in reaching the conclusion to terminate the project when it became apparent the risk of failure was quite high. Led the orderly shut down of operations.
  • Pro Staff Personnel Services (Irving, Texas)1997-1998 
    National Director of Information Staffing Services.  Defined current capabilities, developed strategic and tactical plans to implement and grow national information services staffing segment within an established staffing business. Provided assistance to general managers of more than a dozen markets in the implementation of plans.
  • Distribution Data Management Systems, Inc. (Keller, Texas)1993-1996
    President and CEO of this 75 person software services company in the office products industry.  Appointed to role after the company's owner-operators were killed in a private plane crash. Stabilized company, expanded key relationships in the office products industry, introduced new revenue sources, and directed transition of the company's leadership to an employee led management team.
  • Tuesday Morning, Inc. (Dallas, Texas) 1991-1993 
    Interim CIO of $160 million retailer specializing in high end close outs of giftwares distributed through more than 200 retail stores throughout the United States. Directed total replacement of existing systems and development of a new IT team.
  • VlSystems Inc. (Dallas, Texas) 1990-1991
    Vice President of Operations. Managed 30 software engineers and specialists carrying out research, development, and customer support for UNIX based transaction processing software.  Directed completion and launch of three year old company’s first product within six months after assuming role.


Heidrick & Struggles, Inc. (Dallas, TX)

Conducted retained searches for executives to lead technology companies and technology functions in medium to large companies.  Assisted in the development of strategies and processes to establish an on-line, centralized data base of all individuals contacted by the firm during search assignments.

Arthur Young & Company

Partner in Charge of the Arthur Young Technology Center at the INFOMART where he led professional teams delivering services to the microcomputer industry, end user organizations, and microcomputer users. Developed large-scale projects in product marketing and litigation support for microcomputer vendors.1985-1987 (Dallas, TX) 

Partner in Charge of Microcomputer Technology for Dallas Office. Developed and delivered a wide range of microcomputer consulting and training services.  Assisted start up companies with microcomputer product assessment and business planning.1980-1984 (Dallas, TX) 

Regional Partner in Charge of Computer Auditing.
Organized and directed the computer auditing support activities in seventeen offices in the southwest and southeast part of the country that included recruiting, training, and managing more than 100 individuals who specializd in supporting the audits of computerized accounting systems.1974-1979 (Dallas, TX)

National Director of Computer Auditing. 
As the firm's first Director of Computer Auditing, Tom organized and directed a national office team that provided support to the Firm’s computer auditors, management consultants, and timesharing users.  He represented the Firm on American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) committees which developed the accounting profession's initial auditing and control standards that guided the work of public accountants in auditing computerized accounting records and systems.  1971-1974 (New York, NY)

Computer Audit Manager.
Member of the firm's team that developed the accounting profession’s first Computer Auditing Specialist program.  Led the development of audit processes and techniques necessary to deal with computerized accounting systems.  Led the development of training programs for individuals selected to become computer audit specialists.   Led the development of training programs designed to introduce all of the Firm's auditing professionals to the challenges of auditing computerized accounting records.  1968-1971 (Santa Ana, CA)

Senior Auditor.  Conducted public accounting firm audits of numerous private and public companies.  Developed numerous processes and techniques for dealing with computerized accounting records and information encountered during the course of audits. 1964-1968 (Kansas City, MO)

US Army

Commissioned as an Ordinance Officer upon graduation from Creighton University.  Served at Fort Campbell as the Post Transportation Aircraft Maintenance and Supply Officer where he supervised a civilian contractor company supporting aircraft maintenance for the 101st Airborn Division, supervised a post-level aircraft parts warehouse, and managed the Fort Campbell Post Transportation inventory of vehicles.
