Director of Strategic Initiatives

University of California Student Association

The University of California Student Association (UCSA) is a coalition of students and student governments that aims to provide a collective voice for all students through advocacy and direct action.

  • Lead research, strategic initiatives, and planning around student advocacy topics such as housing affordability, food security, mental health, sexual assault, and other issues
  • Host legislative briefings in the Capitol on student issues
  • Travel to each UC campus to present to decision making bodies and administrators
  • Facilitate meaningful conversations amoungst diverse groups of students and administrators
  • Launched the first Graduate Student Policy Journal; a publication where students can share their best ideas for transforming higher education
  • Support planning and logistics for UCSA board meetings, which rotate from campus to campus each month  
  • Planned and executed 5 major conferences attended by 400+ students at each event 

Senate Fellow

Office of Senator Carol Liu
  • Worked in the roll of Legislative Aide 
  • Staffed four unique bills and guided them through policy making process
  • Met with committee staff and personnel staff to address concerns
  • Built coalitions of supporters around each bill
  • Communicated consistently with stakeholders as each bill moved through the legislative process
  • Planned and executed successful press conferences to promote the Senator's legislation to the media
  • Analyzed 10-25 Senate Governance and Finance Committee bills per week 
  • Briefed the Senator with vote recommendations for committee
  • Staffed the Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care under consultant Asm. Patty Berg (ret.)

Research Assistant

Mills College Department of Public Policy

Research conducted under the direction of Mark Henderson and Lorien Rice on their project regarding student assignment policies and reform in the San Francisco School District.

  • Conducted literature reviews 
  • Explored methods of analysis, including ecological inference solution and software
  • Gained a working knowledge of ARC GIS software
  • Gained a cursory understanding of STATA 10 statistical analysis software

Western Region Coordinator

The Roosevelt Institute Campus Network
  • Engaged students across the state in critical discussions that explore values-based policy making.
  • Lead a team of four talented students to achieve Regional goals 
  • Expand our network by supporting the establishment of four new chapters
  • Lead initiative to bring Roosevelt onto Community College campuses across California
  • Increased the impact of student ideas in the progressive public policy space through publications and meetings with decision makers

Research and Policy Intern

The Campaign for College Opportunity

The Campaign for College Opportunity works to ensure access and success for students in higher education throughout California.

  • Provided support to the Sacramento office; managed scheduling and other logistics 
  • Conducted research regarding system alignment and transfer reform
  • Contributed to the publication "Meeting Compliance but Missing the Mark"
  • Gained significant advocacy and coalition building experience through our efforts to pass SB 1456, the Student Success Act of 2012, authored by Senator Alan Lowenthal
  • Worked on reforms which will increase success and completion for Community College students

Inventory Assistant

Kuebler's Furniture
  • Served as an Administrative Assistant to the Kuebler family as they pursued new business ventures and managed multiple properties and retail furniture outlets.
  • Managed a variety of book keeping tasks
  • Managed the company's customer database using Salesforce
  • Entered sales and payments
  • Tracked inventory, shipments, and salesperson commissions meticulously
